A/C, blower connections under hood
« on: May 02, 2019, 07:48:36 PM »
Might be getting ahead of myself but my next project may be to put A/C back on my car. In the meantime my Hi setting for the blower has never worked. My A/C stuff under the hood is also gone so thatís left some wires disconnected.

Any help identifying would be appreciated. Specifically, Iím trying to get that Hi setting to work. What Iíve read says there is a wire from the alternator that feeds power but Iíve read it could be red and I thought somewhere it said it could be green. I have a green wire with no connector but itís not long enough to go to the alternator. And I have a red wire but the connector doesnít look consistent with attaching to the radiator. Nor is that one long enough.

I'll get some pictures after work today for you but there is a jumper that goes from the red wire to the alternator.  It has a mating connector that plugs into the one you have and a connector on the other end that plugs into a wire with ring on the other end that goes on the back of the alternator.

You can swap out the bad wires with a donor harness.  I just swapped out the green wire w/ black stripe.  Using a very small screwdriver, you push it in the plug enough to release the tab on the crimped end, it slides rite out.   One side has a little tab.  Real easy to do.   I may have some parts you can use, the black ground was the prob on my OG harness.   Leme know it you need any wires.
Think you can buy the extension harness by itself.   Iíd replace the wires with the melted plugs on.

My 77 diagram showed part of that wire being green which was throwing me off

So I went to replace the AC harness yesterday, people say, take the glovebox out, itís rite there, BS.  It comes through the firewall behind the heat box.   You canít see anything.   Now 2 people say to run a string to try to pull in through everything  :-[

I just did this a couple weeks ago.  You pull the glove box and it is right there to the left behind the radio.  Very easy to get at once you find it.

Actually I still have the glovebox and that lower vent out and can go snap a picture of it for you if you need it.

If he doesnít Iíd like to see it. Iím not sure I need to replace my harness necessarily but when time comes to add my AC stuff back it may come in handy.

I see the plug.    It comes in from behind the box.   Itís not easy like everyone says
You have to remove the lower duct as well.
