my mechanic and i put in a new starter and new hei distributor with new wires and tuned the carb. and set timing the other day.  totally different car now and is much more responsive  and starts much better and easier now.  such a better drive now and its a fun car to drive around in. 

and it doesn't make the dreaded bad starter screech half the time when i go to start it.

You may need some shims.  I had a GP that someone took the shims out.  Iíve got a big stack of them if you need any.

all good its perfect now, had shims in it and they are still there, starter was bad.

My GP also when the brass bushing would wear in the nose, it would grind, I had it replaced a few times over the years.
