Loose Electric Window Switch
« on: October 17, 2020, 05:35:14 PM »
The electric window switch in a '78 TA is held into the console with a bracket that always seems a little loose. The bracket tabs just wrap around the hole in the console and they are not very tight. The switch slides back and forth about 1/16th inch when operating the windows.

Have you found a clever method to tighten this down so it doesn't move?

Iíve only put a couple on consoles I was selling, from what I remember, you gotta mash the retainer into the console padding, then the switch snaps in,  hereís a nOS switch, I assume you have the clips in the switch.
The door panels are the same way, you gotta mash the legs on the retainer.
I donít have the console retainer, just ones for the lock switch so I couldnt check out the fit.

Thanks Burd.  I did that and it is a lot better.

I was reluctant to mash that retainer with a pliers because the teeth would gouge everything up or deform the retainer and make it looser.  I dug in my toolbox and found an old Craftsman RoboGrip that has plastic covers over the jaws to protect the surface.  I was able to get the retainer bracket secured.  The switch was still a little loose in the retainer, so I had to bend the sides of the retainer in a little to take out the slop.  Should be much better now.
